Russell Wilson has broken his silence on his future with the Denver Broncos.
After the Seattle Seahawks agreed to trade Wilson, the former Super Bowl winner joined the Denver Broncos ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Wilson experienced a challenging debut season in Denver. The Broncos finished 5-12 and fired head coach Nate Hackett.
Denver hired former Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton for the 2023-24 season. The results improved; Denver finished 8-9, but Wilson ended the season on the bench.
Wilson's relationship with Payton fractured, and many experts wondered if that was the end for Wilson in Denver.
The 35-year-old is under contract with the Broncos until 2029, although there is an out clause after the 2025 season. However, rumours about Denver releasing Wilson this offseason continue to circulate.
Nevertheless, Wilson did affirm his commitment to the Broncos. Wilson told Brandon Marshall's I Am Athlete podcast, "I hope it's in Denver, I hope I get to finish there. I committed there; I wanted to be there. I want to be there. I love the city and everything else."
Wilson's comments echo his comments at Denver's end-of-season press conference, "I hope that it's here, I hope that it's here for a long time. I hope we win some more silverware in the front hall and we get some more championships, and if it's not here, I'll be prepared to do that somewhere else, but I hope that it's here; I genuinely mean that. I brought my family here and everything else."
If the Broncos do release Wilson, they will absorb $85 million in dead cap money on their salary cap for the 2024-25 season.
