The Philadelphia Eagles' ground attack led the way against the Washington Commanders on Sunday evening, as Nick Sirianni’s side rushed for seven touchdowns on their way to a 55-23 victory and a place in Super Bowl LIX.

This was the first time a team had rushed for seven scores in a playoff game since the Chicago Bears’ record-breaking 73-0 win over Washington in 1940, with Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts both running for three scores before rookie Will Shipley crossed the line.

This performance saw one NFL record fall and another could quickly follow in New Orleans when the Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs next month.

Hurts now has nine playoff rushing touchdowns in his career, which is now the NFL record for a quarterback, after he broke former San Francisco 49ers star Steve Young’s mark that was set in 1999.

Impressively, Hurts is in just his fifth year in the NFL, whereas Young’s eighth score came in his 14th campaign. Hurts will have one eye on his rival number in New Orleans however, as Mahomes has seven career playoff rushing touchdowns, after scoring twice against the Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

The Eagles' multi-facilitated rushing attack was led by Barkley, who topped the 2,000 mark in the regular season and had another big day against the Commanders, scoring a 60-yard touchdown on the Eagles’ first play from scrimmage as he enjoyed another 100+ yard outing.

Barkley has added 442 post-season rushing yards to his total for the whole campaign, putting him on a combined total 2,447 yards, which is just 30 yards shy of former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis’ 1998 mark, which is the most in NFL history.

It is now likely that only injury or a remarkable set of circumstances would stop Barkley from the most productive rushing season in NFL history.
