The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have locked down another key player as they look to defend their NFC South title this season.
Earlier this offseason the team handed out new deals to the veteran trio of quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide reciever Mike Evans and safety Antoine Winfield Jr, who are all on $20million-per-season deals.
They can now add a fourth player to this list, after they agreed a five-year extension worth $140million, including $88million guaranteed, with left tackle Tristan Wirfs, as per the NFL Network.
The 25-year-old was about to enter the final year of his rookie deal after the Bucs selected him 13th overall in the 2020 draft, but has now committed his future to the franchise.
The deal comes after he moved from right to left tackle last season, earning his third Pro Bowl call-up in the process. Wirfs won a Super Bowl ring with the Bucs in his rookie season and has continued to improve since, establishing himself as one of the premier tackles in the league.
Tampa Bay begin their preseason slate on Saturday, August 10 when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals, which is followed by clashes against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins before they kick off the NFL regular season against the Washington Commanders.
