Super Bowl LIX is set to be the biggest game of the year for American football fans around the world, as the season-clinching championship game heads back to New Orleans, live on DAZN with NFL Game Pass.
But those tuning in on February 9 to see who prevails at the Caesars Superdome in Louisiana will also be treated to the famed Super Bowl halftime show during the match.
The slot is one of the most coveted gigs in modern music, and plenty of stars have played it over the years - but just who has been the best to top the entertainment bill?
Here, DAZN News ranks what we feel to be the best Super Bowl halftime shows of all time, and how they helped turn it into the affair it is today.
What are the best Super Bowl halftime shows of all time?
Michael Jackson (XXVII, January 31, 1993)
For the first quarter-century, half-time entertainment at the biggest game of the planet was dominated by marching bands and local acts - but that all changed with the King of Pop.
Two years after the release of his album Dangerous, Jackson's five-song set included Billie Jean and Black or White, and set the template for the showman spectaculars to come.
U2 (XXXVI, February 3, 2002)
In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the NFL made the decision to pull original pick Janet Jackson and signed the Irish rockers to strike a more elegiac tone at the game.
The choice paid off with an emotional performance, with U2's three-song set capped by the names of the victims unfurled behind them during Where the Streets Have No Name.
Prince (XLI, February 4, 2007)
For raw anthemic power, the late Minneapolis funk star's show in 2007 will take some beating in the history books, offering a thrilling mini-concert that showcased his musicianship.
Tossing in covers of Queen, Bob Dylan and Foo Fighters along the way, Prince closed with signature Purple Rain during a downpour, delivering a mythical firework-high finale.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (XLIII, February 1, 2009)
It might not have brought the visual trickery and pop-oriented spectacular that many of the other most memorable shows have, but The Boss came ready to rock - and did so.
Springsteen and his E Street Band - widely considered one of the best live acts in history - played a four-song set, including Born to Run and Glory Days.
Beyonce (XLVII, February 3, 2013)
Queen Bey had arguably cemented her place as one of the world's biggest solo artists by the time the Super Bowl came calling - but if not, then it catapulted her to another level.
Her show, which featured a reunion from old group Destiny's Child, packed a plethora of pop smashes such as Crazy In Love and Halo into a glitzy nine-song performance.
Katy Perry (XLIX, February 1, 2015)
Two years after Beyonce set a new benchmark for choreographed pop dynamism, her fellow singer arrived to deliver a show both acclaimed - and instantly meme-friendly too.
The legacy of Left hark added to a bevy of singalong tunes in an eight-song set, capped by the soaring Firework, while there were cameos for Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott.
Coldplay (50, February 7, 2016)
The British rock group, effectively taking U2's crown as the biggest band in the world around the middle of the decade, courted controversy from conservatives with their show.
Guest slots from Beyonce, to sing Formation, and Bruno Mars earned mixed notices at the time, but a set featuring Viva La Vida and Fix You is now considered an all-time great.
Lady Gaga (LI, February 5, 2017)
After several years of guest-studded shows, Stefani Germanotta brought it back to solo basics with a powerhouse of a show that started on the roof of Houston's NRG Stadium.
Descending to the crowd, Gaga ran through more than half-a-dozen of her biggest hits, including Poker Face, Born This Way and Bad Romance to massive acclaim.
Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar (LVI, February 13, 2022)
A who's-who of hip-hop united to celebrate the genre's history in a show that mixed Generation X and Millennial tastes, bringing together some of the biggest names in the game.
Additional cameos from 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak, who drummed on Eminem's Lose Yourself, effectively whetted the whistle for 2025 headliner Lamar to come back again.
Rihanna (LVII, February 12, 2023)
The Barbadian singer's show is all the more remarkable with the revelation she was pregnant at the time it took place, with rumours she scrapped a full tour set to follow it up.
That meant those who took in her near-dozen-song set were treated to a cavalcade of burnished bangers, including We Found Love, All of the Lights and Diamonds.
