As the Super Bowl countdown begins, several eliminated teams are focusing their efforts elsewhere: finding and hiring new coaches.
DAZN News provides a roundup of the latest updates and rumours surrounding the NFL coach hiring cycle, focusing on head coaches, offensive coordinators, and defensive coordinator appointments.
Atlanta Falcons
Jeff Ulbrich was hired as the Falcons’ new defensive coordinator on January 18.
The move reunites Ulbrich with head coach Raheem Morris, who previously worked under Ulbrich in 2020.
Chicago Bears
The Bears hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be their new head coach on January 21.
Chicago followed Johnson’s appointment by making Dennis Allen their new defensive coordinator. As a former head coach, Allen will undoubtedly help Johnson as he embarks on his inaugural year as a head coach.

Cincinnati Bengals
Al Golden was hired as the Bengals’ new defensive coordinator on January 23.
Golden returned to the team in 2020 after leaving his position as linebacker coach to become Notre Dame's defensive coordinator.
Cleveland Browns
On January 15, the Browns promoted Tommy Rees from his previous position as a pass-game specialist to offensive coordinator.
In a story that wouldn’t be out of place in a Hollywood movie script, Rees formerly served as a ballboy for his boyhood club.
Dallas Cowboys
On January 24, the Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer from offensive coordinator to head coach.
Defending criticism that he doesn’t take risks with coaching appointments, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of the Schottenheimer hire, “If you don’t think I can’t operate out of my comfort zone, you’re so wrong.”
Dallas has been linked to former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus as they search for a new defensive coordinator.

Detroit Lions
Kelvin Sheppard was promoted from his previous role as the Lions’ linebackers coach to the vacant defensive coordinator position on January 25.
The Lions hope that Sheppard’s familiarity with the roster and scheme will help them maintain positive momentum heading into 2025.
The Lions are expected to hire John Morton, the former Denver Broncos passing game coordinator, as their new offensive coordinator.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts appointed former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator on January 21.
“Mike’s experience speaks for itself,” said Titans’ owner Amy Adams Strunk, adding, “I’m excited for Mike to get started.”
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen as their new head coach on January 24.
In a bizarre series of events, Coen removed himself from consideration for the role before having a change of heart.
Jacksonville has been linked to Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach Daronte Jones in its search for a new defensive coordinator.
Las Vegas Raiders
Pete Carroll will become the oldest head coach in the NFL after being appointed as the successor to Antonio Pierce on January 24.
Minority owner Tom Brady hopes Carroll’s experience as a Super Bowl-winning coach will help fast-track the Raiders' rebuilding plans.

New York Jets
Former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn became the new Jets head coach on January 22.
As a former Jets player, Glenn was delighted with his new role. He said, “This organisation has always felt like home.”
San Francisco 49ers
On January 24, the 49ers announced Robert Saleh would return as the team’s new defensive coordinator.
Saleh helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl during his first stint with the team and will strive to help restore greatness to their defensive unit.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle appointed Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator on January 26.
According to head coach Mike McDonald, one of Kubiak’s priorities will be letting the quarterback “play fast.”
