Tom Brady has admitted his surprise after seeing his former boss Bill Belichick fail to land a head coaching job this offseason.
The curtain fell on Belichick’s 24-season reign at the New England Patriots at the end of the regular season, bringing one of the sport’s greatest-ever dynasties to a close.
Under Belichick, the Pats would win six Super Bowl titles and shatter a host of records, but successive losing seasons, including a 4-13 campaign in 2023, brought about a parting of ways.
New England quickly replaced Belichick with one of his former players in Jerod Mayo, while seven other teams have hired new head coaches ready for the 2024 campaign.
None of these included Belichick, despite the 71-year-old interviewing with the Atlanta Falcons and Brady has spoken about the snub on his Let's Go! Podcast.
"I'm not one to hire (coaches)," Brady said. “I don't know the criteria for hiring these guys, for hiring coaches. I've never been a part of it.
"I mean, I'm surprised that the greatest coach ever doesn't have a job, absolutely. But I'm surprised (by) a lot of things in the NFL."
"There (are) a lot of things that happen that, for one reason or another, don't go exactly the way you think they should go," the seven-time Super Bowl winner added.
