Alycia Baumgardner has dismissed her opponent Mikaela Mayer as ‘arrogant’ ahead of their world title unfication fight next weekend.
As part of the undercard to Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall’s clash on October 15, the WBC, IBF and WBO women's super featherweight belts will be up for grabs in this all-American clash.
With the rearranged fight date now closing in, the exchanges between the pair have become heated.
Mayer has pointed to a defeat to Christina Liardatou in 2018 for Baumgardner, something that the American bristles at.
"Taking a loss is nothing against a fighter," Baumgardner told Sky Sports.
"It's not really irritating [Mayer highlighting the defeat]. It's more arrogant.
"She did mention that I didn't do anything for the sport and I mentioned every woman that has stepped in that ring has done something for the sport of boxing. It doesn't matter if you don't have the platform, the backing behind you, you still risk your life every time you step in that ring and I have done that. I have made statements in the ring and I have brought boxing along just as any other woman has.
"I have a competitive spirit. I'm a competitor," she said. "People are still doubting me but this is part of the sport.
"My mindset is to win. My mindset is to have a dominating performance and my hand will be raised.
"Winning this fight means everything."
