Amanda Serrano leapfrogs Claressa Shields in DAZN's female pound-for-pound rankings

Amanda Serrano leapfrogs Claressa Shields in DAZN's female pound-for-pound rankingsShowtime Boxing
Boxing's only seven-division female world champion makes a significant move in the latest women's update.

It has been a busy time in women's boxing as some of the marquee names have competed in the final two months of 2021. Because of that, a shakeup has occurred in DAZN's latest female pound-for-pound list

Katie Taylor remains at the top of the heap due to her unanimous decision victory over Firuza Sharipova on Dec. 11. However, the most significant move is Amanda Serrano moving up to number two while Claressa Shields moving down to the third spot.

The shakeup is due to Serrano's (42-1-1, 30 KOs) dominant performance last Saturday on the co-main event of Jake Paul-Tyron Woodley 2, battering and beating up Miriam Gutierrez for ten rounds in a decision win to run her winning streak to 29.

Shields (11-0, 2 KOs) slid down because of inactivity as she hasn't stepped through the boxing ropes since a lopsided decision win in March over Marie-Eve Dicaire to become the undisputed women's junior middleweight champion. The two-time Olympic gold medalist has made MMA her primary focus in 2021, going 1-1 under the PFL (Professional Fighters League) banner.

Shields is scheduled to return to the ring on Jan. 29 when she defends her WBA, WBC, IBF middleweight titles against Ema Kozin.

Another shakeup in the rankings is Seniesa Estrada (22-0, 9 KOs), going up to number five based on her sensational fourth-round knockout over Maria Micheo Santizo last Saturday to retain her WBA (super) minimumweight title and to continue to hold two world titles in two different weight classes simultaneously. The win was "Superbad's" seventh in her last 10 inside the distance.

Estrada replaces Mikaela Mayer (16-0, 5 KOs), who is coming off a thrilling decision win of Maiva Hamadouche at the beginning of November. The victory was Mayer's fourth consecutive fight and eighth in her last ten to go the distance.

A new entrant in the rankings is Alycia Baumgardner (11-1, 7 KOs). The 27-year-old destroyed Terri Harper, resulting in a fourth-round TKO in the middle of November. Baumgardner replaced Franchon Cruz-Dezurn in the rankings and forced Delfine Persoon to slide from ninth to tenth.
