American heavyweight prospect challenges Joe Joyce

American heavyweight prospect challenges Joe JoyceDAZN
A rising heavyweight star is eager to face "The Juggernaut".

American heavyweight Richard Torrez Jr. has expressed his desire to make a fight with Britain's Joe Joyce in the future.

The two fighters have something in common with Torrez and Joyce claiming super-heavyweight Olympic silver medals as amateurs, but the former has a grudge with Joyce after a sparring session in an international training camp.

"I was 17 and there's some animosity, at least on my end from that sparring session. I don't want to get into it too much but I definitely would love that boxing match to be able to happen one day if not next year," Torrez told Sky Sports

"Some people hear the bell and some people don't. I can't speak for the guy and who he is as a person. I just know from my experience of what happened with me, I do harbour a little bit of just wanting to be able to fight him in the pros.

"If I could have one fight, I would like to fight him."

After securing an Olympic medal in Tokyo two years ago, Torrez has turned professional and has won all seven of his fights as a pro within the distance.

Now he is preparing for his eighth fight in the professional ranks on Saturday night when he takes on Curtis Harper on the undercard of Robeisy Ramirez vs. Rafael Espinoza.
