Andy Ruiz is aiming for another world title, as well as a fight with Deontay Wilder.
Ruiz and Wilder could be set to meet as the rest of the heavyweight division looks to keep themselves occupied while Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury attempt to find a way for their undisputed clash.
The former WBA, WBO and IBF champion lost his belts in a rematch to Joshua in 2019 in Saudi Arabia, and is set to make his comeback against Chris Arreola at the weekend. After that, he is aiming to take on another former champion, Wilder.
Wilder lost his WBC belt to Tyson Fury last February, but could be on his way back after a string of outbursts regarding his defeat.
“That would be an exciting fight,” Ruiz said to BoxingScene.com.
“That would be an all-action fight. He’s a banger. I’m a banger as well. And he’s fought Chris Arreola before. I’m gonna fight him on May 1st, so I think that would be a really, really good fight. I would love for that fight to happen.”
31-year-old American fighter Ruiz has noticeably slimmed down in preparation for his next fight, after admitting his lifestyle had given him little chance against Joshua. Ruiz is aiming to keep busy.
“If everything goes good, you know, there’s a lot of fighters out there for me to fight,” Ruiz explained.
“There’s Wilder, there’s Tyson Fury. I know he’s gonna fight Anthony Joshua soon, but I gotta stay busy, I gotta stay active and whoever they put in my way, you can best believe I’m gonna give it all I got and train hard for whatever comes my way.”
