The two former world champions were set to meet later this year.

Jorge Capetillo, the trainer for former unified world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr., has explained why a fight with Deontay Wilder failed to materialise.

Last year, the WBC called for an eliminator between Ruiz and Wilder to become the mandatory challenger for its heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

However, despite many attempts to make a deal, the two former champions will now go their separate ways. For Ruiz, he is yet to announce his next move, while Wilder looks to be on a collision course to face Anthony Joshua at some point in the near future.

Speaking to Betway, Capetillo pulled back the curtain on the negotiations for Ruiz vs. Wilder and what was stopping the fight from being made.

"I think it was about the purse – the amount of money," Capetillo said.

"Both sides want to negotiate the best they can for themselves and I think they didn’t get to an agreement because of the numbers.

"I think that was a good fight for Andy – I would be so happy if he fights Deontay Wilder for sure. He’s the quicker fighter and faster fighter. He can punch but unfortunately they couldn’t get an agreement, there was back and forth but you know how boxing is.”
