Anthony Joshua's former trainer delivers honest verdict on whether he should retire

Anthony Joshua's former trainer delivers honest verdict on whether he should retireDAZN
AJ was handed a shock loss by Daniel Dubois at Wembley on Saturday.

Robert Garcia knows Anthony Joshua well and he’s urged his former fighter to stick with boxing and pursue a fight with Tyson Fury.

Garcia was part of Joshua’s team when he faced Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, one year after the Ukrainian had defeated the Briton in their first meeting.

The trainer would only last one fight with Joshua before being replaced for Derrick James, but he’s insisted the former two-time world champion can still partake in big fights.

Joshua lost for the fourth time in his career last weekend against Daniel Dubois, but that result hasn’t forced Garcia into thinking Joshua should walk away from the sport.

“The Fury fight is still a huge fight for him. Even if Fury loses to Usyk again, they fight each other in England and that’s huge, they could sell 200,000 tickets if they fight each other,” said Garcia when speaking to ESNews.

“Another big fight for Anthony is [Deontay] Wilder also. That’s two huge fights no matter what happened in their last fights, Fury and Wilder, both fights are huge for Joshua in England. He can still win those fights because he’s got great power.”
