Conor Benn believes that Anthony Joshua could have the edge over Tyson Fury if they do meet in their planned summer fight.
Eddie Hearn believes that a fight is soon to be announced once a venue is chosen, despite the dissent from Tyson Fury and his team, and a summer event looks set to be the first part of a two-fight deal.
Fury is considered the slight favourite by the bookmakers, but when Benn was asked on DAZN’s Ak & Barak Show who he believed would win, he plumped for Joshua.
“I’m not a betting man but it’s really hard to call,” he said.
“If there anyone can beat AJ, it’s going to be Fury, currently. I know he got beaten by [Andy] Ruiz, but there’s many factors that played into that. but if there's anyone who can beat Fury, it’s AJ.”
Benn explained that he believes that Joshua cannot come into the fight weighing too much.
“So I’m not going to sit on the fence like I do when it comes to this,”
“It all depends what weight AJ comes into this. If he comes in at the same weight he was earlier in his career he’ll have the agility, the speed, the accuracy, the power. I believe he won’t fatigue later on when Fury’s looking all awkward, and I believe he can close the gap with his straight shots against Fury.
“I think if AJ comes in at a light weight I’m going to call AJ a straight 1-2 down the middle.”
Benn vs Vargas on April 10 is on DAZN except for the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and China
