Deontay Wilder is leaning towards a fight with Andy Ruiz rather than Anthony Joshua as he looks to resume his career in 2024.
That’s the opinion of Malik Scott, Wilder’s trainer, who’s only work with Wilder in the past year saw him register a first-round stoppage against Robert Helenius at the backend of 2022.
Since this summer, Wilder has been linked to a sensational battle with Joshua but talks for that contest are still ongoing with no fight date confirmed.
Ruiz, a former world champion, has long been mentioned as a possible opponent for Wilder and that looks the direction that the Alabama man is heading towards.
“Andy Ruiz probably at this point. AJ is cool if he go his whole career without fighting Deontay. He don’t really mind it. You don’t see him fighting for it,” said Scott when speaking to FightHype.
“AJ doesn’t campaign about the fight enough. He doesn’t really want it and we all know why. Because stylistically he’s picture perfect to be knocked out by Deontay.”
