Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has said that Anthony Joshua will not be taking any risks when it comes to Covid ahead of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua and his WBO mandatory challenger meet on September 25 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, after his proposed undisputed heavyweight title fight with Tyson Fury fell through.
Fury was instead obliged to fight Deontay Wilder, but his July match-up was delayed until October due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the WBC champion’s camp.
Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn explained that the IBF, WBA and WBO champion was taking his own preparation seriously.
“You got to take precautions. AJ if you go up to his camp, it's super, super high level. And the precautions they take, very high high-end - Usyk I believe the same,” he claimed.
“I know that AJ has previously had Covid and still has antibodies and I think I'm not sure if Usyk has. But again, at that level, like you're not going to see AJ doing any public appearances or games or a show, or just, you know, just hanging around people - he's locked into camp. And I'm sure we'll be just fine.”
