Kevin Lerena almost turned the heavyweight division upside down when he faced Daniel Dubois back in 2022.
Aiming to capture a portion of the WBA title, the South African was a huge underdog against Dubois, but he almost caused a huge shock when he dropped the Londoner three times in the opening round.
Dubois would eventually recover and end the bout two rounds later, but the bout left Lerena well qualified to speak about the power possessed by Dubois.
Now IBF heavyweight champion, Dubois defends his belt against Anthony Joshua this weekend, live on DAZN, and Lerena has offered his verdict on the blockbuster meeting.
“I think that it could be a fight of two halves in the sense of both guys going down,” said Lerena when speaking to Boxing Social.
“Both guys can punch, I have never shared the ring with ‘AJ,’ but it is no secret that he is a phenomenal athlete, he is a big man, and he has got a long, rangy right-hand.
“I think that is the punch for Daniel Dubois because, if you look at the Hrgovic fight, Daniel was eating a lot of right-hands. I don’t think he needs to be eating those right hands from Anthony Joshua because he is a different type of puncher.”
