Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder? Wilder says he's 'not going to rob the fans from not making that fight happen'

One of the marquee fights to make in boxing is Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. 

Efforts have been made in the past to stage a battle featuring two of the premier heavyweights in the world. But talks haven't gone anywhere, and the contest hasn't come to fruition. However, there is a glimmer of hope it can be made in the future as Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said he wants to make the fight happen in the future. The "Bronze Bomber" wants it and despite what Hearn has said about it, isn't sure if Joshua feels the same way.

“Now we have no choice, maybe,” Wilder said on The Last Stand Podcast. “We’ll see, we’ll see, we’ll see. I’m not going to rob the fans from not making that fight happen. I definitely want that fight to happen. I just want to know if they for real.”

The 2008 Olympic bronze medalist last fought in October 2021, losing by stoppage to WBC titlist Tyson Fury in one of the greatest fight in the history of the heavyweight division. He returns on Oct. 15 against Robert Helenius, while Joshua is coming off of two straight losses to three-belt titleholder Oleksandr Usyk. Now that he's back, Wilder says there's no fight off the table, including one with his British rival.

“I mean, right now, we’re handling what we gotta do over here," Wilder exclaimed. "I mean, at the end of the day, like I said, I’m back, so there’s no fights that’s gonna be not negotiable to have or that it’s going to be nonexistent.”
