Oleksandr Usyk wll reunite with his former amateur mentor and the father of fellow Olympian compatriot Vasiliy Lomachenko, Anatoly Lomachenko, ahead of his expected upcoming challenge of WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently confirmed that the plan is for the fight to take place on September 25 at Tottenham Hotspur's stadium in North London, England. However the fight has yet to be officially announced by Matchroom Boxing or Usyk's promotional team.
"Egis Klimas, who is the manager of both, I talk with him and he has talked with the father of Lomachenko, who he calls 'Papa Lomachenko' who was the trainer of all these Ukrainian Olympians and he's agreed to properly train Usyk for this fight," confirmed Bob Arum to Sky Sports.
"I'm telling you, 'Don't think that Joshua is in a cake walk. He has a really tough fight with Usyk, who is a terrific boxer.
"His father wouldn't train anyone else, but he will train Usyk, because Usyk is like family."
The Lomachenkos were most recently seen in action this past Saturday, when Vasiliy defeated Masayoshi Nakatani in his first outing since losing his unified lightweight championship to Teofimo Lopez Jr.
