The much-talked about potential fight between WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and WBC and The Ring titleholder Tyson Fury still does not have a date or a venue, and David Haye — their fellow Brit who held world heavyweight gold before the duo rose to prominence — believes the wait could be a while.
Haye held the WBA title from 2009 until 2011, when he was defeated by Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg. Four years later in Dusseldorf, Fury earned his first world honours when he ended the years-long dominance of 'Dr. Steelhammer', before Joshua retired the Ukrainian great 18 months after that.
Haye, who now manages the career of ranked heavyweight veteran Dereck Chisora, told Sky Sports that only "ridiculous" money would get the fight on the schedule as early as promoter Eddie Hearn continues to hope.
"I'll be surprised if it happens before November," Haye said. "If it does happen before November, fantastic.
"Knowing boxing like I do, whatever offer they receive it's going to need to be ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous to get it over the line, and if it does get over the line, God bless both of them.
"They deserve every penny they earn, because they've both put it on the line. They've both sacrificed, they've both become heavyweight world champion in their own right.
"They've both taken their licks. Fury got off the canvas against Wilder, AJ got over his loss against Andy Ruiz Jr and came back with a victory, so they both deserve the richest prize in the sport.
"They both deserve to be in this big mega event. May the best man win when it finally does happen."
