Mahmoud Charr is aiming to fight either Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua after he faces Christopher Lovejoy this weekend.
The German-based Syrian is the WBA champion in recess after winning the WBA regular title in 2017, but has not fought since then.
Now 36, he will take on his American opponent who boasts 19 fights with 19 knockouts against at-best middling opposition.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Charr's promoter Erol Ceylan claimed that he was aiming to secure a challenge for a full heavyweight title once the dust has settled in the undisputed clash between Joshua and Fury.
"Mahmoud has not boxed for a long time," Ceylan said. "It is important now that he fights and wins against Lovejoy. After that, I have big plans for him.
"If he wins this fight, he could face the winner from Joshua-Fury in the next fight."
