Artur Beterbiev successfully defended his world titles after battling through a serious cut to stop Marcus Browne in round nine.

Artur Beterbiev successfully defended his IBF and WBC light heavyweight titles after stopping Marcus Browne at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The Russian sustained a terrible cut in the fourth round after an accidental clash of heads and it looked like at one point his undefeated record was in jeopardy.

With the condition of the cut worsening, the referee told Beterbiev he may only be allowed to fight for one more round, but instead the 36-year-old world champion went on the offensive and knocked Browne down twice before sending him to the canvas one final time in round nine with a brutal left uppercut.

This victory solidified the hard-hitting Beterbiev as the man to beat at 175lbs and will now be looking to face WBA champion Dmitry Bivol or WBO title holder Joe Smith Jr. in a unification fight.
