Bernard Hopkins has labelled Gervonta Davis as the world’s best fighter following his destructive win over Ryan Garcia earlier this year.
In what was a monumental event, Davis got on top of Garcia early and his dominance in the contest eventually brought a seventh rounds stoppage as the Californian couldn’t recover from an excellent body shot.
Davis’ beating of Garcia is just one of many impressive stoppages that has taken place across the boxing world in 2023.
Terence Crawford scored an impressive win over Errol Spence in July and Naoya Inoue done the same to Stephen Fulton in the same month. Despite a few contenders for the title, Hopkins believes Davis is the sport’s premier competitor.
“Tank Davis because of how he executed Ryan Garcia,” said Hopkins when speaking to ESNews. “The way he did it and how he did it, and I stand on that.
“He’s been off because of personal, but he’s back and it ain’t got nothing to do with personal, it’s got something to do with my credibility and how I feel.”
