Billy Joe Saunders has not ruled out a comeback in the ring, highlighting a potential all-British showdown with Chris Eubank Jr. as a future prospect.
The former two-weight world champion has not fought since 2021 when he lost his WBO super middleweight title to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in Dallas, Texas.
Saunders produced a valiant effort, but he was unable to continue past round eight after he suffered a broken eye socket and multiple fractures against the Mexican.
Despite a full recovery, the Briton is yet to return to the ring and despite many occasions where a comeback appeared to be on the cards, nothing has come to light.
One name that has tempted Saunders is an exciting rematch with Eubank Jr. though, having previously claimed a victory against his countryman by split decision in 2014.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Saunders revealed that a second meeting is of interest and one which he claims could be one of the biggest fights in British boxing.
“I’ll be honest, I was in heavy talks with Eubank’s manager a few weeks ago," he said. Heavy talks. I’ve actually got a lawyer at the moment just going through a few bits.
"But I obviously need to get myself motivated to get a comeback fight and then build in to that big night.
"Obviously it’s also for the fans to see because I believe if you take out the heavyweights and the domestic British level, it don't get much bigger than myself and Eubank.
“We’ve had it before and there’s loads of water that’s gone underneath the bridge.
"It’s no secret that I don’t like him on a personal note and he doesn’t like me on a personal note.
"It’s just how it is. We don’t really get on. And I think the fans will enjoy the build-up and enjoy the fight.”
While Saunders is not eyeing an imminent return, Eubank Jr. next fights on October 12 where he faces Kamil Szeremeta on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol.
