Billy Joe Saunders has rejected the idea that he might retire after his defeat to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Saunders was prevented from getting back to the fight in the ninth round after his team stepped in. The 31-year-old Briton lost his WBO title after suffering a heavy blow to his eye socket and was unable to see out of one eye.
He had surgery on Sunday and Saunders confirmed the extent of the injury on Facebook, reported Sky Sports.
He wrote: "Thanks everyone for msg.
"Broken eye socket and broken cheekbone in three places - operation yesterday, all went well.
"You win some and lose some. Didn't feel out my league but got caught with a good shot and couldn't see.
"Thank you all who watched. I'll be back, God bless you all."
On the DAZN Boxing Show, Eddie Hearn admitted Saunders would come in for criticism after his previous outbursts over other boxers who chose to retire.
