Can the WBC lightweight world champion incorporate these gems into his game?

From sitting back and analyzing Shakur Stevenson's fight game, Roy Jones Jr. has pinpointed one area that he believes the WBC lightweight world champion can improve upon — his footwork.

"Shakur Stevenson is a very good fighter but he's gotta learn — and I would hope he would pay attention to this because this is gonna mean a lot for him — his feet are good but sometimes they take him too far out of range to be able to come back and counter," Jones told Stephen Jackson on All The Smoke Fight.

"[Edwin De Los Santos] was a good puncher so when [Stevenson] was jumping back, he was jumping too far back out of range to where he couldn't come back and get some right away. And for the fans, it stars to look boring."

As the conversation between Jackson and Jones continued, the boxing legend likened Stevenson's stance to an excavator that's placed too far back to find its spot and dig a hole, thus missing its chance to complete the job.

"That's his only thing. He's a great fighter, he's got great eyesight, he has great reaction time ... he's going to be a great fighter," Jones insisted. "He's just got to figure out how to use them feet a little bit different."

Jones added that Stevenson's feet make him the best defensive lightweight champion, but that he's got to change his footwork offensively to be a more potent threat.

"He has the best foot defense in the game," Jones said. "When you want to make it offensive, you can't do the same. You gotta cut it in half and that's the only thing he has a problem with. Once he learns that and figures that out, he's going to be a killer."

The boxing Hall of Famer also took the time to swat any fans' notion of Stevenson being a boring boxer.

"He's not boring unless you don't understand boxing," Jones tacked on. "You understand boxing, he's not boring at all. He's doing some good stuff.

"But when you look at it from a fight fan perspective, it becomes boring because he's not ever taking that risk to do something. He has to be a little bit more of a risk taker but he's gotta learn it with the feet so he knows when and why he's taking that risk."
