O’Shaquie Foster dominated Robson Conceiçao through 12 rounds of action Saturday night in Newark, New Jersey.
Yet, when the judges' official scorecards came in they read 116-112 for Conceiçao, 116-112 for Foster and 115-113 for Conceiçao for the shocking split-decision for the Brazilian, making him the new WBC junior lightweight world champion.
Foster was visibly shocked, telling ESPN: "I thought it was a shutout. I thought it was an easy fight. I didn't get touched but with a headbutt. I don't know, man ... they stole this fight from me."
And others around the boxing world agreed.
Shakur Stevenson, who was the headliner to the Foster-Conceiçao co-main event, called the split-decision an outright "robbery" and one that made him seek a knockout in his own fight to prevent experiencing the same fate.
Boxer Regis Prograis offered via his X account: "I think we just witnessed one of the biggest robberies ever. Ever, ever, ever in boxing history. [Foster] won every round. He literally won every round and they gave it to the other dude. Like, how bro?"
Former junior lightweight world champion Jamel Herring also expressed disbelief over the decision.
