Boxing has a new world champion.

Seiya Tsutsumi is the new WBA bantamweight champion after outpointing Takuma Inoue in a terrific battle that was staged in Japan.

Inoue, the younger brother of pound-for-pound superstar, Naoya, was hoping to retain his crown, but he found Tsutsumi too tough to overcome after falling short on the scorecards.

After four rounds, the bout was evenly poised with both fighters seemingly satisfied with their output in the fight’s early phases.

From the halfway point though, Tsutsumi began to take over and his energy in the second half was one of the fight's defining factors.

Putting constant pressure on Inoue and using a wild style to launch attacks from a variety of angles, Tsutsumi was able to get on top and make things uncomfortable for Inoue.

With Tsutsumi taking over, things got even better for him when he forced Inoue to take a count.

The champion was staggered, and even though it looks like he had recovered after the ropes saved him, the referee jumped in after ruling it a knockdown.

That all but confirmed that the fight would be heading in Tsutsumi’s favour and the official verdict soon came with all three judges scoring for Tsutsumi.
