Too fast, too skilled.
Caleb Plant used those distinct advantages to thoroughly overwhelm Caleb Truax toward a unanimous decision and retain his IBF super middleweight championship on Saturday night. Judges at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles had it 120-108 across the board. DAZN News had it the same, with Plant shutting Truax out.
After delivering the dominating performance, Plant didn't hesitate sharing his hopes for a title unification bout with unified WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
"That's my goal," said Plant about getting Alvarez in the ring potentially next.
Plant additionally shared his goal about becoming "the first undefeated undisputed" super middleweight champion of all time.
Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) also revealed that he hurt his hand and believes he fractured it early in the fight. If that's indeed true, then recovering from that injury could spell a delay for making Plant's dream bout against Alvarez come true. However, Plant's injured hand didn't stop him from surgically defeating Truax in a boxing clinic Saturday night. From the opening round, the 28-year-old Plant showed that he was just too quick for Truax, 37, slipping punches with smooth head movement. Pretty soon thereafter, Plant asserted his jab, tripling it up on occasion, and began piecing combinations together — all while showing different angles and punch variation to further confound Truax.
Plant fell prone to Truax's hard overhand right over a few sequences in the fight, but he always bounced back with his smooth boxing skills that his older opponent didn't have any answers for.

Co-main event: Michael Coffie def. Darmani Rock via third-round KO; Heavyweight
A blistering uppercut sent Rock to the canvas in a heap 23 seconds into the third round. Moments later, Coffie dropped Rock with a left hook to the head and just like that it was over.
Joey Spencer def. Isiah Seldon by first-round TKO; Junior Middleweight
Spencer dropped Seldon with a big right hand just over a minute into the bout. Although Seldon gathered himself off the mat to beat the count, the son of former heavyweight champion Bruce Seldon didn't do himself any favors by punching Spencer in the back of the head three straight times to earn a two-point deduction from the referee. Moments later, Spencer made Seldon taste the canvas with another solid right and the ref stopped the action right then and there as Seldon protested to no avail. Spencer improves to 12-0 with nine KOs.
