Caleb Plant to Canelo: I possess a lot of the same athleticism, boxing IQ as Floyd Mayweather Jr.DAZN
Caleb Plant lets Canelo Alvarez know that he's better than most people think he is.

After getting Canelo Alvarez stopped Billy Joe Saunders to become a three-belt super-middleweight champion, he immediately let Caleb Plant know that he was coming for his IBF title.

"That's the plan," Alvarez told DAZN's Chris Mannix about facing Plant. "That's the plan to go for the belt. I'm coming, man. I'm coming, my friend."

Plant has said he's ready and willing to meet Alvarez to crown the first-ever undisputed 168-pound champion. The bout is likely to occur on Sept. 18.

"I'm confident it's going to happen," Plant told Tennessean.

Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) is regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. Since suffering his only defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September 2013, Alvarez is unbeaten in 15 fights (14-0-1), with eight of those wins coming inside the distance.

The prevailing thought is Alvarez will run through Plant on his way to history. The undefeated Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) feels he has some advantages in the fight and has already started studying past Alvarez opponents. Plant's looked at two fights in particular and thinks after looking at them, he can capitalize on those shortcomings.

"I feel like my height, my reach, my athleticism are my strengths," he said.

"I have all the boxing IQ in the world. When he fought Floyd, when he fought (Erislandy) Lara, I don't fight just like Floyd, and I don't fight just like Lara, but I possess a lot of the same athleticism, if not more. I possess a lot of the same boxing IQ. Those are things that have given him trouble, and I feel like I can capitalize from them also."
