Can Gervonta 'Tank' Davis handle Ryan Garcia's power? Shakur Stevenson gives his verdict

Can Gervonta 'Tank' Davis handle Ryan Garcia's power? Shakur Stevenson gives his verdictDAZN

Following his win over Hector Luis Garcia at the weekend, Gervonta 'Tank' Davis now looks to be on a collision course with rival Ryan Garcia.

Once again, Davis' power proved too much for his opponent in Washington who was forced to retire at the beginning of round nine due to fears surrounding his sight.

One area of concern for fans however is how often Davis was getting hit and this could become an issue against Ryan Garcia who is known for his fast hands.

But according to unified super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson, getting hit is something that does not phase Davis regardless of who is in the opposite corner.

"He [Gervonta 'Tank' Davis] doesn’t care about getting hit," Stevenson told The DAZN Boxing Show.

"He’ll have no concern. In his brain he will feel like he can take anybody’s punches and so far he’s been holding up."

When it comes to potentially facing Garcia at some point this year, Stevenson believes that Davis will be able to adjust to the 24-year-old's style and avoid being on the wrong end of Garcia's power shots.

"No, I don’t think so. I think Ryan is a good puncher, but I doubt that he is going to just walk forward and take any punches from Ryan Garcia," Stevenson responded when asked whether Davis can afford being hit frequently by Garcia.

"I think he’s a smart fighter and will adjust."

Stevenson also discusses Joe Cordina and what lies ahead for him in 2023 in the rest of exclusive interview, which will be shown on DAZN
