The unified lightweight champion plans to emulate pound-for-pound great.

Teofimo Lopez, the unified champion at 135lbs, is set to make a mandatory defence against George Kambosos on June 19.

If he gets through that fight unscathed, there is the possibility of moving up to super-lightweight to face Josh Taylor who holds all the belts at 140lbs.

In a recent tweet, Teofimo Lopez gave himself 10 years to become the biggest star in boxing, citing Floyd Mayweather as an inspiration.

As well as replicating Mayweather inside the ring, Lopez plans to follow in the footsteps of the 50-0 fighter by becoming a free agent.

Speaking to DAZN's Ak & Barak earlier this year, the 23-year-old discussed his attempts to force his way out of his contract with Top Rank following the chaos surrounding the purse bids for the Kambosos fight.

"Todd DuBoef will be the next representative for Top Rank, and I tried to be as cordial as I could be, but when someone is bragging they’re trying to stop you from getting purse bids, and bragging that they want to ‘teach this kid a lesson,’ of course you’re going to feel some kind of way. "

"I see myself as this fight or my next fight as a free agent. There’s so much proof for me to get out of this Top Rank contract, they gave me the golden ticket. They dug a bigger hole than they needed to."

While there maybe plenty of noise surrounding Lopez and his exciting future, defending his lightweight crown will be the priortity against a rough and ready George Kambosos in Miami, Florida.
