Oleksandr Usyk could potentially return to cruiserweight if a fight with Canelo Alvarez can be secured.
Usyk’s incredible run at cruiser saw the Ukrainian star rack up all four belts with impressive wins along the way against high level opponents such as Michael Hunter, Murat Gassiev and Tony Bellew.
After cleaning out the division, Usyk has enjoyed an incredible heavyweight campaign that saw him win world titles from Anthony Joshua in 2021 before repeating the result earlier this year.
Despite having a ton of opportunities in front of him at heavyweight, his trainer, Sergey Lapin, has revealed his man would drop a weight if a fight with Canelo was possible.
“Next year, the fight for the title of undisputed world champion against Tyson Fury is our priority,” said Lapin when speaking to Lord Ping.
“This is the main goal. But if this does not happen for whatever reason, then I hope that there will still be some very interesting fights ahead.
“Alex could, for example, return to the cruiserweight division but only if he has a fight with Saul Alvarez. That's the only fighter that Usyk would come back down to cruiserweight for.”
