Eddie Hearn has identified David Benavidez as the man who Canelo Alvarez will target next as he looks to continue his dominant reign at 168lbs.
Benavidez faces Demetrius Andrade later this year and if he can maintain his unbeaten record against the former world champion then a huge 2024 meeting with Canelo is surely the next step.
Canelo’s run at super-middleweight has saw him collect every world title available with wins over excellent names including Callum Smith and Caleb Plant.
Benavidez is seen as the best available contender for Canelo and Hearn, Canelo’s former promoter, believes that fight will be next for the Mexican icon.
“When you look at Canelo, you got to look at where the real challenges are coming from,” said Hearn when speaking to FightHype.
“Benavidez against Andrade is a good fight. I expect Benavidez to stop Demetrius Andrade, and when he does, I think he’s going to make a real claim to fight Canelo Alvarez, and I think Canelo at that point will take the fight.”
