Canelo Alvarez gives blunt response to possible Terence Crawford fight

Canelo Alvarez gives blunt response to possible Terence Crawford fightEd Mullholland/Matchroom
The undisputed middleweight champion has been mentioned as a possible opponent for the American.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is being linked with some huge fights in 2024.

One of those is a possible matchup with Terence Crawford who is considered to be a pound-for-pound great.

Crawford has not fought since beating Errol Spence last July to become the undisputed title holder at 147lbs, and while there has been a strong possibility that he will face Spence next in a rematch, the prospect of a clash with Alvarez has never gone away.

The only stumbling block so far for an Alvarez vs. Crawford matchup is the latter would having to step up three weight classes to face the Mexican, but now this fantasy matchup seems dead in the water after Alvarez dismissed the idea of a meeting with Crawford in an interview with Box Azteca.

"No," Canelo responded when asked about a possible meeting with Crawford.

Alvarez then explained his reasoning and claimed that he would gain nothing from a fight with Crawford.

“So now if you imagine Crawford as a welterweight. 168lbs, I have everything to lose and nothing to gain because if I win, they’ll say, ‘Oh, he was too small, and everything!”

While a fight with Crawford does not feature in Alvarez's plans, he did reveal that he will be returning to the ring on May 4 in Las Vegas against an unknown opponent.
