Fans are clamouring for the two super middleweight stars to meet in the ring.

Following a dominant win over Demetrius Andrade last month, there was only one man fans wanted to see David Benavidez fight next and that is the undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

It is a fight which many have been eager to see over recent years, but for one reason or another, numerous factors have stopped it from being made.

Now with Alvarez rumoured to face either Jaime Munguia, Jermall Charlo or Terence Crawford next May, Benavidez could be slated to face the Mexican four months later.

But in an interview with Fight Hub TV, Alvarez revealed that no discussions about future opponents have taken place just yet for his two outings in 2024.

"Right now my dates are May and September. Those are the dates that I always look to fight. This Monday I’m gonna have a meeting and see what’s next," Alvarez said.

“There’s nobody on the table just now. Honestly, I’ve been doing other things. Handling my businesses, travelling with my wife, so I don’t know where those names came from.”

If Alvarez does not agree to face Benavidez next year, there are some calls for him to vacate his WBC belt with Benavidez being the mandatory challenger, however, Alvarez did not completely pour cold water on the prospect of facing Benavidez in September while hinting that his rival could be forced to wait a little longer.

"Look, a lot of things can be said, but, at the end of the day, I’m the king and I can do what I want,” Alvarez continued.

“We’ll see. Like I’ve said, always, I’m here to make the good fights. If that’s a good fight for September, or he has to wait a little bit, we’ll see. At the end of the day, sometimes the fights are bigger when you have to wait a little bit.”
