Lightweight contender Ryan Garcia admitted that Canelo Alvarez was sure he would beat the youngster should they ever meet.
Talking on DAZN’s Beyond the Bell show after the Alvarez comfortably beat Avni Yildirim at the weekend, Garcia told Chris Mannix that he once told the Mexican that he would challenge him should he ever move up the weight classes.
However Garcia said that Alvarez felt he would pose no danger, telling him: “‘It doesn’t matter if you were my weight, you wouldn’t be able to go through my guard.’
“He has confidence on another level. It’s past confidence. It’s just knowing.
“He wants to create history, the thing that’s going to live on. Canelo’s looking to defeat everybody, and if you’re a fighter, why wouldn’t that be your dream?”
Discussing Yildirim’s performance against Alvarez, Garcia believed that the Turkish mandatory challenger froze under pressure.
“He was like a deer in the headlights, he couldn’t move,” he said.
“He didn’t want to throw a jab. He didn’t really throw anything. Did he throw a punch?
“Canelo reflects the punches off pretty well. He has a feel for it. Canelo boxed like he wanted to do, the perfect fight.
“I don’t think there’s not one person he don’t think he can’t beat.
“He just has this sense to him, this aura around him, that, ‘nobody can mess with me - I could do this with anybody.’”
