Canelo Alvarez reflects on Floyd Mayweather 'lesson' as he prepares to face Gennadiy GolovkinDAZN

Canelo Alvarez wasn’t going to let a defeat to Floyd Mayweather dictate the rest of his career.

On Saturday night, the iconic Mexican defends his undisputed super-middleweight crown against his great rival, Gennadiy Golovkin.

It’s the third meeting between the pair and Canelo has yet to taste defeat against the Kazakh star with a draw and a victory to his name.

Canelo enters the bout following the second loss of his illustrious career after he was beaten by Dmitry Bivol earlier this year.

Although that performance has added some intrigue to Canelo’s bout with Golovkin, observers of boxing will be aware how Canelo bounced back from his loss to Mayweather in 2013.

Despite being second best for large portions of their super fight, Canelo rebounded brilliantly to become the best boxer in the sport with world title wins in four divisions.

His list of victories includes Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and Miguel Cotto, but Canelo is eager to point out the education he received in his setback against Mayweather.

“I’ve always said that I don’t take it as a defeat, I take it as a big learning curve in my career,” said Canelo when speaking on the DAZN show, The Making of Canelo

“The biggest lesson I learned was that I didn’t want to feel what you feel when you lose.”
