Canelo Alvarez showed his gratitude to Gennadiy Golovkin immediately after defeating his great rival for a second time.
Their third meeting was the most conclusive of the series as Canelo dominated the fight from the outset before settling for a close verdict on the scorecards from the ringside judges.
Their first two meetings were drenched in controversy due to many within the sport believing that Golovkin had done enough to win both fights.
Those thoughts were absent in the trilogy encounters as Canelo was always one step ahead, but the Mexican star was quick to heap praise on Golovkin seconds after the final bell.
“Thank you so much my friend,” said Canelo in the post-fight interview when looking straight at Golovkin.
“Thank you for everything. We gave the fans three good fights. I’m glad that I shared a ring with him.”
