Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford - Mexican gives update on potential fightEsther Lin/Premier Boxing Champions
There may be reason for hope.

The WBO has ordered Terence Crawford to fight Sebastian Fundora, but Canelo Alvarez does not think that kills his potential match-up with the super welterweight champion.

Crawford moved up from being undisputed at 147lbs to defeat WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov, and is now set for his first defence at the new weight.

In recent months, Crawford has expressed interest in fighting the unified super middleweight champion, with the Mexican seemingly unconvinced.

Alvarez’s next fight is against Edgar Berlanga on September 14, live on DAZN , and after that he has nothing confirmed ahead of him.

He has suggested that facing Crawford offers him little upside. With Crawford 14lbs below him, he thinks there would be little praise if he dispatched the unbeaten American, while for Crawford any surprise would be hailed as a triumph.

However, speaking to BoxingScene, Canelo would not definitively rule anything out.

“I don’t think so,” Alvarez said. “I’m not saying that fight can’t happen. That order doesn’t matter.”
