Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is absolutely daring to be great by climbing two weight classes to challenge WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Celebrities all around are taking notice.
Music mogul DJ Khaled, three-time NBA champion Draymond Green and the CEO of Uninterrupted and Springhill Entertainment, Maverick Carter, narrate Alvarez’s quest for boxing excellence in the latest episode of DAZN’s behind-the-scenes documentary series “40 Days.”
Executive-produced by LeBron James and Carter, as well as soccer star Carlos Vela, the new clip begins with Alvarez attacking the pads ferociously, before Khaled begins narrating the Mexican fighter’s latest push for greatness.
“People think there’s a limit how high you can go. No, there’s no limits,” Khaled says. “That mountain is the highest mountain. It keeps getting higher and higher. It’s just different levels.
“He’s not letting the game dictate his level,” he continues in the clip. “He challenged the game and said, ‘I want to level up. I want to go two weight classes up. And when I take home that win’ … he knows he’s going to be a legend.”
While Alvarez moving up two weight classes instead of just one is significant, Carter pinpoints that climbing divisions is a natural progression for a ring ruler like the current WBA world middleweight champion, who has dominated at 160 pounds for years.
“Many great fighters in the past, once they conquer a weight division, the only next step is to go up,” Carter says. “They’re conquerors.”
“40 Days” footage shows Canelo and Kovalev embracing and posing for a photo together before their first press conference to formally announce their upcoming fight.
While Khaled and Carter heap praise onto Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KOs), Green takes the time to warn fans about Kovalev (34-3-1, 29 KOs), who will be fighting at his comfortable world championship weight of 175 pounds and will certainly test Alvarez quickly on Nov. 2.
“The guy with nothing to lose, obviously Kovalev in this fight,” Green chimes in, “is extremely dangerous.”
The second episode of “40 Days: Canelo vs. Kovalev” is scheduled to be released Thursday, with the final episode set for Oct. 31.
