The British boxing legend was not impressed with Jermell Charlo's performance against the Mexican.

Former world super middleweight champion Carl Froch has given his verdict on Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's win over Jermell Charlo on Saturday night.

Alvarez successfully defended all four of his world super middleweight titles in Las Vegas in a dominant performance which saw him drop Charlo in round seven. The Mexican was then declared the winner on the judges' scorecards.

But Froch was quick to criticise Charlo's decision to step up from light middleweight to take the fight and claims that the American went straight into survival mode come the first bell.

"Honestly, I was disappointed with Canelo Alvarez against Jermell Charlo. Charlo realised very early that he was outclassed in a different division," Froch said on his YouTube channel

"The super middleweight 168-pound division was too much of a step up for Charlo, who’s a great operator at 154. I know he’s a big 154-pound fighter, but not big enough to step up to 168 against someone as skillful as Canelo Alvarez. Charlo stepping up to 168?

"I think it was naive of his team. It turned out to be a very disappointing fight and easy work for Canelo.

“He landed three or four punches a round; he couldn’t get to Canelo. He got dropped as well during the fight. It was pure survival for Charlo.”

Froch then went onto make a prediction for how he would fare against one of the world's best pound-for-pound fighters.

“Good job Canelo never met the Cobra at 168lbs because I would have given him hell.”
