Carl Froch has backed Deontay Wilder to travel to China and defeat Zhilei Zhang following the latter’s win over Joe Joyce last weekend.
Zhang has blown open the heavyweight rankings in 2023 following two impressive victories against Joyce and his name has been linked to all the leading fighters in the immediate aftermath.
With Wilder, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Oleksandr Usyk occupying the top spots, Zhang will be eager to test himself further following his destruction of Joyce.
It’s not sure what direction the Chinese star will head in next, but Froch, a former world champion at super-middleweight, believes Wilder will accept his challenge.
“If it’s going to be 200 million [people watching] and it’s going to be over in China, I think Deontay Wilder is brave enough and good enough to take on that challenge and think he can win,” said Froch when speaking on Froch on Fighting.
“He’s going to be confident he can knockout Zhang.”
