Katie Taylor produced the performance of her remarkable career to gain revenge over Chantelle Cameron via majority decision following a brutal encounter in Dublin.
Taylor entered the fight an underdog after Cameron defeated her back in May, but Taylor had improved massively from the first meeting to win 98-92 and 96-94 on two cards against a 95-95 verdict.
Taylor began brilliantly as her fast flurries repeatedly scored in the opening rounds, but she did survive a minor scare when she was dropped with the referee saying she was off balance.
Cameron was badly cut in the fight’s third session and that made her approach become a bit more reckless, but that didn’t stop the Northampton fighter from giving it her all.
In the fight’s second half, Taylor kept doing just enough to stay ahead and with the crowd on their feet in the closing stages, both fighters continued to go at it until the final bell.
In the fight’s immediate aftermath, Taylor and her promoter, Eddie Hearn, gestured that a trilogy meeting could take place at Croke Park in 2024.
That event has been speculated before, but with Taylor’s popularity set to increase even more following this stunning victory, Ireland’s national stadium is the perfect setting for the deciding fight in this superb rivalry.
