Chris Billam-Smith endured a painful period at the end of 2024 when he lost his world title in a terrific unification battle with Gilberto Ramirez .
The Bournemouth fighter was hoping to land a crack at Jai Opetaia on his way to becoming undisputed ruler at cruiserweight, but his plans were thwarted by the brilliant Mexican.
Despite falling short against Ramirez, Billam-Smith isn’t giving up on returning to the top of the division and he’s targeting world champions for his comeback.
Before losing to Ramirez, Billam-Smith appeared to be a fighter very much on the up thanks to impressive wins over Lawrence Okolie and Richard Riakporhe.
Speculation had linked Billam-Smith to a potential run at heavyweight, but the Ramirez setback has ensured those plans are now on hold.

Cruiserweight has numerous opportunities that Billam-Smith can possibly exploit, and one is a fight with Badou Jack, the WBC champion.
The Swedish fighter is well known ro British fight fans following his battles with James Degale, George Groves, and Nathan Cleverly, and Billam-Smith could target Jack next.
"I'm back training and I'm feeling good. Feeling really invigorated and motivated," said Billam-Smith when speaking to Sky Sports .
"I'd love the Badou Jack fight. I think he's tied up with [Ryan] Rozicki [the mandatory challenger]. I'd love that fight."
