Chris Colbert on who George Kambosos Jr. should face next - 'He will lose to Lomachenko'DAZN
Chris Colbert was speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show before his fight against Hector Luis Garcia on Saturday night.

The lightweight division may not be on the immediate horizon for Chris Colbert, but the super featherweight still had his say on the 135lb world title picture.

Unified world lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. is currently in negotiations for an undisputed fight with Devin Haney or a two-fight deal with former champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.

When speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show about the current state of the lightweight division, Colbert believes the Australian should avoid Haney and instead opt for an easier first defence of his WBA, WBO and IBF titles.

"If I was Kambosos I would stay away from Dev Haney...let him enjoy the belts," Colbert said.

"He came out of one tough fight that he was training a whole year for.

"I would’ve taken it as low as I can, I would have taken one of my sanctioning bodies’ mandatories.

"I give him credit, but my personal opinion is that he will lose to Lomachenko."

Colbert is also confident that Haney has the ability to beat Kambosos if the two did meet later this year.

"Yeah I think so, it’ll be a good fight though," Colbert responded when asked about Haney's chances against Kambosos.

"I think Lomachenko will beat him worse because Lomachenko has got those angles."

Colbert returns to action on Saturday night where he faces Hector Luis Garcia in a WBA world super featherweight title eliminator.
