Chris Eubank Jr will be a keen observer when Demetrius Andrade defends his world middleweight title against Liam Williams at Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday night. The WBO belt clash, screened exclusively live on DAZN, sees Williams aim to gate-crash the business end of the 160lbs division by dethroning one of the rulers.
Eubank Jr, a fighter also possessing world title aspirations, returns to the ring on May 1st when he takes on Manchester’s Marcus Morrison. After partaking in a number of high-profile domestic grudge matches against the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, George Groves and James DeGale, Kalle Sauerland, the promoter of Eubank Jr, will be watching closely in case of a Williams victory that could set up another all-British tussle.
"Williams vs Andrade is a great fight. If Williams wins that, he's a character," said Sauerland when speaking to Sky Sports. "I'd love to promote that because the build-up would be naughty. There are lots of options out there."
As well as the winner of Andrade vs. Williams, the red-hot middleweight division could throw up a number of potential intriguing contests for Eubank Jr with the likes of Gennadiy Golovkin, Jermall Charlo and Ryota Murata all occupying lofty positions.
Golovkin, arguably boxing’s biggest puncher, is the fighter recognised as the best at middleweight and although Eubank Jr has fallen short at that level in previous encounters, Sauerland admits that it’s the Kazakh superstar that his client wants to face.
"He's had the big stage, we've seen tactical mistakes that he's made in the Billy Joe Saunders fight and arguably in the George Groves fight. We've seen his success against James DeGale. I'd like him to be at 160lbs - the man to beat is Gennadiy Golovkin, he's the one, the one we'd love to make."
