Gennadiy Golovkin remains the primary target for Chris Eubank Jr, according to the Brit himself.
The British middleweight participates in a domestic grudge match against Liam Williams this weekend, but it appears that he’s already looking ahead towards a potential fight with the premier fighter at 160lbs.
Golovkin was scheduled to defend his world title in a unification fight against Ryota Murata in December, but that fight was postponed due to issues entering Japan because of the Omicron variant.
A date for the rearranged bout has still not been finalised but that hasn’t prevented Eubank from looking towards a fight with the Kazakh superstar, who is one of the favourites to battle old nemesis Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez later this year in what would be a trilogy fight between the two greats.
“I do want to fight for a world title,” said Eubank when speaking to Boxing Scene. “Golovkin is number one on my list.
"That is easier said than done. You can’t just pin a number like that down whenever you want, but if we can, we will.
"I’m a mandatory to fight for the full WBA title. Murata has that title, so I would love that fight.”
