Claressa Shields wants Katie Taylor fight, claims promoterDAZN
The two biggest fighters in women's boxing could meet this year

Claressa Shields could fight Katie Taylor in a bout to become undisputed world champion, with Shields’ promoter declaring the event as ‘definitely a possibility’.

Last weekend Shields beat Marie-Eve Dicaire to become the first undisputed champion at two weight divisions, with her win bringing together all world super welterweight titles.

She spoke to DAZN last week about wanting to fight Taylor, who is the current undisputed lightweight champion, and her promoter Dmitriy Salita likes the fight too.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "From the beginning of her career Claressa told me to make the biggest and best fights.

"She means what she says and says what she means.

"A fight with Katie Taylor is definitely a possibility. Katie is a very good fighter for whom I have a lot of respect for inside and outside the ring.

"The ball is in her court if she wants to do it. It would be another mega event for women's boxing."

Salita talked up his fighter and her potential legacy should she fight and beat Taylor.

"Claressa Shields is a trailblazer, a pioneer as an athlete and a social influencer who uses her gift to advance justice and equality for women around the world a la Billie Jean King, Shirley Chisholm and other incredible super women leaders throughout history," Salita said.

"There was no better moment for her to accomplish another first of being a two-division undisputed world champion than on the weekend of International Women's Day.”
