After stalled negotiations, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Caleb Plant finally came to terms on a Nov. 6 undisputed super middleweight championship fight, as announced Thursday.
With the fight being made with Plant, who is a PBC fighter, is the door now open for Canelo to fight other PBC boxers such as Jermall Charlo or David Benavidez? Chris Mannix talked about those possibilities while appearing on a recent DAZN Boxing Show episode.
"No, it's not the worst idea at all. Um, you know, those are, yeah, potentially big fights," said Mannix over the prospects of Canelo fighting a Charlo or Benavidez in the near future.
"I'm kind of indifferent to Charlo, as I've been for many years now until he fights Demetrius Andrade, I don't care. And Benavidez is I think it's certainly a dangerous fighter. Although, you know, he needs to get back in the ring, maybe win a big fight of his own again."
Mannix even broached the idea of Charlo and Benavidez fighting each other to get to Canelo.
"How about Benavidez against Charlo?" Mannix continued. "The winner of that fight gets a shot at Canelo. I mean, like what? Like, yeah, I don't believe that you should be able to walk into big opportunities. You have to earn them."
Both Charlo and Benavidez have expressed interest in fighting Canelo.
