The DAZN Boxing Show discussed Katie Taylor’s chances should she take on Cris Cyborg.
This week, undisputed lightweight champion Taylor announced her first fight since defeating Amanda Serrano in one of the fights of the year.
She meets unbeaten Argentine Karen Elizabeth Carabajal live on DAZN on October 29.
Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes believes that the fight is one for the Irish fighter to stay sharp in anticipation of a Serrano rematch.
“I know that the rest of the world wants to see the rematch against Amanda Serrano but Amanada has dropped down to defend her titles at 126lbs.
“She wants to do some other things and I think down the line we're going to get that rematch. Katie can’t wait forever, she's not in her 20s anymore. She wants to stay busy. I like this fight. I like Carabajal.”
Barak Bess agreed, saying: “This is a stay-busy fight. I always say fighters who on fight in their home country, unless their home country is the United States or maybe even the UK, the toughest competition happens when you fight abroad, different places. When you’re fighting in Argentina and 19-0, that 19-0 isn’t the same as someone who’s fought in America, overseas, fought in Japan, all over the world. Something that Katie has done.”
One potential fight for Taylor down the line might be to take on Brazilian MMA legend Cyborg, who is making a move to the boxing ring.
Bess thinks any fight would go in Taylor’s favour.
“She’s a great MMA fighter, she’s a great human being,” he began. “No, I don’t think anybody coming from MMA can compete with the best of boxing.
“That’s what Katie Taylor is, she’s the best of boxing. I think even Cyborg knows that, and she’s going to give it her time. I don’t think it’ll be competitive unless there’s some way to push Taylor around and rough her up.”
